Last month, I attended Florida Supercon where I had a blast meeting celebrities, shopping for merchandise and talking to fellow fans. However, I did learn something about Florida Supercon and why people spend a huge portion of money on this event. While many South Florida citizens flock every year to go to this event there is something that many of them take for granted. Florida Supercon is important to South Florida’s community because it gives them an opportunity for people to sell their artwork, action figures, and comic books.

This year’s Supercon had various vendor groups selling their artwork from 3d paintings to fan fiction pictures. One artwork that caught my eye was a painting of the Star Wars characters reenacting Leonardo Da Vinci’s The Last Supper. While I found the picture to be offensive to my faith I understand the creativity that went into the picture. Conventions help arts and toy sellers to be creative and successful in their careers. This event allows South Florida citizens to embrace their inner nerd and fan-fiction.

During my visit, I saw local comic book stores, and arcades advertising their business for South Florida citizens. From a marketing perspective, these events are important for these businesses because it helps them obtain their target audience. For example, The Korka comics booth sells its Funko pops and comic books to convention visitors.  The Korka comics booth also advertised their job openings at their stores. Many expos and booths advertise jobs to help geek culture practitioners find jobs that are aligned to their interests.
